Michael Tolkien used to be born in Birmingham in January 1943, and is a grandson of the past due J.R.R Tolkien. He studied for an MA in English Language and Literature at the University of St Andrews, and a B.Phil in Restoration and 18th Century English Literature at Merton College, Oxford. He settled in Rutland and was once a secondary college instructor from 1968 till early retirement due to unwell health in 1994. Since then he has labored as a freelance lecturer, in adult training, and serious about his personal writing and reviewing.
